A long-treasured family secret, the UMA Absolute Essential Self-Massage Oil combines celebrated strengthening and nourishing ingredients with the indulgent aromatic headiness that is the hallmark of our beloved Ayurvedic formulas. Featuring some of the most revered Ayurvedic oils like Arjuna, Brahmi and Mustard, this wholesome formula adds an additional layer of comfort and delight to the ultimate ritual of self-care: the Abhyanga self massage.
Loving, generous, Ayurvedic self-massage, also known as Abhyanga, is one of the most beneficial exercises for our wellbeing. It grounds us and allows for a moment to appreciate our body and mind. When doing so in a deliberate, therapeutic way, it can help to increase circulation, reduce inflammation, boost longevity, and clear any bodily obstructions including stagnation, heaviness, and blockages. Our Absolute Essential Self Massage oil is light and luxurious, so it blends beautifully over skin and lends a silky quality with every touch. Nourishing and healing organic ingredients drench skin and muscles in moisture, while also helping the body to naturally detoxify and invigorate.
Key Ingredients:
- Arjuna Oil: The ancient physicians of the Indian sub-continent have been using the bark decoction of the indigenous medicinal plant, Terminalia arjuna (also known as Arjuna), for centuries. Believed to bolster cardiovascular health by strengthening the heart muscles and increasing blood circulation, Arjuna oil is often referred to as the “king of cures” in self-massage.
- Cardamom Oil: Research in the Encyclopedia of Applied Plant Sciences concludes that when used as a part of a massage, cardamom stimulates sensory fibers in the skin. This stimulation triggers the parasympathetic nervous system, which then induces relaxation and decreases one’s perception of pain.
- Turmeric Oil: Ayurvedic healers have always regarded turmeric—a plant in the ginger family that is native to India—as a purifier. Turmeric contains phytochemicals that make it a natural antioxidant.
- Guduchi Oil: Studies have shown Guduchi contains a multitude of beneficial elements, including antioxidant, anti-hyperglycaemic, anti-hyperlipidemic, hepatoprotective, cardiovascular protective, neuroprotective, osteoprotective, and anti-inflammatory properties.
Ingredients:
Essential Oils of Acorus Calamus (Calamus), Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender), Ocimum Basilicum (Basil), Cardamom Elettaria (Cardamom), Melia Azadirachta Seed (Neem), Curcuma Longa (Turmeric) in a base of Withania Somnifera (Ashwagandha), Bacopa Monnieri (Brahmi), Terminalia Arjuna (Arjuna), Tinospora Cordifolia (Guduchi), Brassica Alba (Mustard), Cocos Nucifera (Coconut), Sesamum Indicum Seed (Sesame), Vitis Vinifera (Grapeseed) and Moringa Oleifera Seed (Moringa) Oil.
How To Use:
- Apply all over the body and massage gently. Use plenty of oil – warmed up, if possible. Use straight motion on bones, circular motions on joints, using the full palm to massage. All parts of the body should try to be included – including stomach and chest.
- If feasible, perform the dry brushing ritual prior to administering the self-abhyanga. The oil may also be warmed up prior to administration, whenever possible, for an even more comforting ritual. Abhyanga is typically performed prior to a shower or bath, and it is recommended the oil be left on the skin for at least 15 minutes prior to washing off, for maximal skincare and wellness benefits.
