What inspired the name bette green?
I thought about names for a very long time but nothing ever sounded right or felt true to my vision. One day, one of my bf’s texted me- what about bette green? Sarah Bette Green is my maiden name and it just sort of clicked. I created bette green for my daughter first, but I loved that it was a nod to the girl in me and the girl in all our hearts.
How did bette green come to be?
For a year in my 20’s I lived with my grandmother in Mexico and one night I was getting ready to go out and she said to me, when I look at you I see what I once was and when you look at me you see what you will become (it sounds prettier & more poetic in Spanish). That moment and her words really struck me and years later when I had my daughter it all just came together.
How has living in between Los Angeles, CA & Guadalajara, Mexico influenced you and your brand?
My summers in Mexico were spent surrounded by women. My mom is one of five sisters, I have one sister & we are two of eleven first (female) cousins. The time with all of them was by far the strongest and most grounding influence of my life and the celebration of the female experience and generational connection is a huge inspiration for bette green. Mexico was all about tradition and Los Angeles opened my eyes to a more diverse group of people and new ideas like clean beauty and sustainability.

Our Cleansing Stick works to gently remove the dirt and grime build up from the day- even makeup & sunblock- without stripping the skin of its natural protective oils. Formulated to match the skins natural pH, our non-drying formula cleans and protects from acne causing bacteria. We’ve included hydrating & moisturizing properties so skin is left clean, hydrated & moisturized! The Starter Stick’s size and portability were purposely designed to be easy to use so it in fact gets used!

How important is sustainability to bette green?
Very! I did my homework and found a manufacturing partner who has worked in the green/natural beauty space decades before clean was expected. Our ingredients are sourced responsibly, our product is manufactured in a 100% wind powered facility. At the same time there’s always room to improve. I’m currently searching for a more sustainable component- not an easy feat!

Is bette green looking to expand into new products?
Eventually yes, but I’m not in a rush. I’m being super thoughtful about what comes next. A new product has to be aligned with our less is more, fuss-free, feel-good approach to beauty.
What has been your most memorable moment with bette green?
Definitely the morning we launched. My kids were by my side when I sent a mass email announcing the birth of my new baby, bette green. The three of us screamed with excitement and I loved that they were a part of that moment with me. They’re my biggest cheerleaders and it means the world to me.
What’s next for bette green?
This summer I relocated my family from LA to NY so the focus of this year has been on finding a place to live, moving and settling us all into our new life on the east coast. Getting everyone feeling settled and at home has been the top priority. Now that I’m (mostly) unpacked and school has started I’m eager and excited to dive back into bette green and see where I can take it!
Run us through your morning routine!
First, coffee! I’ve had my Nespresso machine for over 10 years and I love making myself a double shot oat milk latte. I try to drink it on my own- if possible outside. Then its breakfast, packing lunches, making sure everyone gets out the door on time. Once everyone’s out & its quiet again, I enjoy some me time in my bathroom. I floss, wash my face (with bette green of course) I’ll use a serum, eye cream, moisturizer and I always brush my brows & curl my lashes. If I know I’m going to be working inside all morning I won’t put on sunblock (I know, very controversial)!
What are some challenges you had to overcome with bette green?
January 2020 was when I finally felt like I had the time I needed to get the busines I had been dreaming about off the ground. I enjoyed two months of uninterrupted work and then COVID hit and my kids came back home and would remain in virtual school for an entire year. But I think even harder than trying to juggle the logistics of that year, are all the times I’ve doubted myself. Believing I have created something special worth sharing and that I’m worthy of sharing it is by far my biggest challenge and something that comes up way more than I’d like to admit.
Besides bette green, what are you passionate about?
Traveling, learning. Becoming the best version of myself.
How do you like to spend your free time?
I love spending time with my family and friends- eating, laughing, talking. But I equally love and value my alone time. When I’m on my own I enjoy yoga, walking, baths, reading. I like and need both in equal measure!
